The lifespan of trendy restaurants gets shorter and shorter, certain locations are cursed, and let's say it all together now: Gimmicks just don't work. But a surprising number of LA restuarants found the winning formula, including Chaya Brasserie, Parkway Grill, Ocean Avenue Seafood, Campanile, Kate Mantilini and Grill on the Alley. However, the majority of these restaurants' menus are stuck in the 80s, not always a good thing. [Gridskipper]
