What will it take to make David Myers just simmer. We just found out the chef will open his wildly successful Comme Ca brasserie in Orange County this fall. The 322-seater, much larger than the Melrose location, will open in the Offices of South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa in November. Sona, two Boules, an Italian restaurant in the works, and now another Comme Ca: If you doubted before, it's officially an empire.
But this news gets us thinking: What the hell is going on down there? Charlie Palmer opened at Bloomingdale's at SCP this week; the Macy's will have a "high-end food court" with restaurants from Cat Cora, Rick Bayless and Marcus Samuelsson. And and Dean & DeLuca plans an outpost at Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach. We can handle chefs passing over LA for Vegas to some degree---it's Vegas. But Orange County? Really??
