BurgerWire: Five Guys Opens, Better Than In-N-Out?

New, 24 comments

The OC Register's Fast Food Maven alerts everyone that Five Guys Burgers opened in Carson last week. For the uninitiated, Five Guys is to the East Coast as In-N-Out is to us, but there are differences:

While the burgers were just as tasty as In-N-Out, Five Guys is still very different from INO. First of all, it’s menu is highly customizable — offering about a dozen toppings and sauces from fried onions to A-1 sauce...Also, the fries (fresh from Idaho and fried in peanut oil) are much more superior than INO’s potato chip-tasting French fries.
Among accolades for Five Guys, Zagat has it “rated” as a great bargain burger, The Washington Post refers to it as “the Willy Wonkas of burgercraft," and New York Magazine called it one of the best “cheap eats” in and around the Big Apple. Phil Ratner, who has rights to opening 30 franchises around SoCal, said one will open in Cerritos next and also North Orange County, but he won't discuss other future locations. The Carson location is at the Southbay Pavillion (20700 Avalon Blvd, 310.515.7700).
