It's been a rough one year for Gonpachi, the Global Dining just-like-in-Japan spot on La Cienega's Restaurant Row. Since it opened, the first wave of staff walked out and was quickly replaced, the second wave was fired, reviews were so-so, there were some PR changes, and then chef Katsuya Nagasawa was brought in to help, what, make it more palatable? One blogger thought the food at last night's anniversary party was passable, plentiful, desserts hit or miss. But look at the hired "eye candy." Can you say "trying too hard?"
