Well, well: Starbucks announced it will be closing 600 stores in the U.S. and will only open 200 in 2009. After breakfast sandwich experiments, new mermaids, old coffee to new coffee and back to old "burnt" coffee, the forthcoming Sorbetto (!) and various other caffeinated antics, this is a sure sign things really aren't so groovy in javaland. This will affect approximately 12,000 full and part-time employees. Join the fun: Watch the stores disappear before your very eyes on this handy map. [Businesswire via LAist]
