If there's one event we---and just about any foodie worth their fleur de sel---look forward to every year, it's Wolfgang Puck and Babara Lazaroff's American Wine & Food Festival held on the Universal Back Lot every fall. Why? Because it's one place with local, national and world-renown chefs, wines and cocktails at every turn, live music, and more food than any one person can eat in the allotted five hours. The New York facades and cobblestone streets made the event interesting, and even though the recent Universal Studios fires affected the location, the party will still go on (no updates on what part of the back lot will be used, however).
This year's restaurants include all of Puck's, LA biggies like Campanile, Angelini Osteria, Mozza and Valentino, celebrity chefs like Tom Colicchio, Michael Mina and Jose Andres. It's tough to choose, but others to get excited: Yountville's Redd, SF's Quince, Alex from the Wynn in Vegas, our perennial favorite, Jasper White's Summer Shack. Oh, so many more. Once again the weekend kicks off with Red Hot at Red Seven at the PDC on Friday night, and ends with the Chef's Grand Tasting Dinner at Spago on Sunday. No one expects you to do all three, but if you do, more power to you. Oh, and it will sell out so plan accordingly. Since we didn't have access to photo galleries last year, please enjoy the above look back for the tease. (September 26-28; $150 per person Friday, $300 Saturday, and $750 on Sunday. All proceeds go to Meals on Wheels.)
