BurgerWire: Comme Ca Jumps on Board, 8 oz. Off to a Good Start

WEST HOLLYWOOD: Everyone's jumping in the burger pool these days. Two very excited tipsters wrote in this morning to say that Comme Ca's lunch-only burger is now available after 10pm. It's an off-menu offering so you'll only know if you know---and now you know. To recap what all the fuss is about, let's go back to what Jonathan Gold had to say: "I swear that the best cheeseburger I’ve ever tasted was the one I had for lunch at Comme Ça last Tuesday, a thick, dripping, loosely packed puck of bloody-rare beef, glazed with a quarter inch of good Cheddar, barely but adequately contained in a soft, shiny-crusted hamburger....Comme Ca's burger is from an older tradition where ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves, unfussy hamburgers that taste like good aged meat." [EaterWire]

MELROSE: Meanwhile, we gave Govind Armstrong's 8 oz. Burger Bar a test-run last night and, yeah, it fits. Once again, the menu: The prices are extremely reasonable, the burgers are tasty and as basic or as fancy as you want (just watch how many tempting extras you put on or all of a sudden you'll have yourself a $25 burger). The beer was cold (for the most part...still working on the tap system), and servers, even with one day of training, were pretty in control. It's new and a few minor things need tweaking, but all in all, off to a great start. This is the neighborhood place it always wanted to be and will be packed soon enough---already had a good-size crowd two nights in. Here's what we know about food hours: 6pm-10:30pm this weekend (Fri-Sat), closed Sunday. Come Monday, it will be 4:30pm-12am daily (bar stays open until 2am). Eventually, in a few weeks, they'll open earlier for lunch. Also: no reservations. First come, first serve only. [~ELA~]
