EaterWire: Activity at Aroma Bakery, Azami Closes, Chef Shuffles

New, 4 comments

HOLLYWOOD: A few readers spotted activity at Aroma Bakery & Cafe today, the new location that took over the "rock-n-roll Denny's"/Roman's on Sunset. "This morning around 9am...big sign proclaiming "Open During Training"... customers already enjoying." Confirmed. Open as of today for breakfast through dinner. HOLLYWOOD: There's word that the tiny sushi spot Azami on Melrose and near La Brea closed: "Just ate another great meal only to learn that owner/head sushi chef Niki sold the restaurant. It will cease to operate as Azami after dinner service tonight. Niki said the new owners would be reopening soon, but she didn't offer any information about what the place will be called or whether the menu will remain the same." A fan's fond farewell. CHEF SHUFFLE: We knew there was a new chef at Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas, but we just now found out where previous chef Steven Rojas went: He replaces Gavin Kaysen, former Bocuse d'Or competitor now in New York, at El Bizcocho at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in North San Diego County. Also notable about El Biz: The restaurant moves to tasting menus only in September. [EaterWire Inbox]
