The Tomato Scare of Summer 2008 has morphed into the Jalapeno Scare of Summer 2008: A single Mexico-grown jalapeno pepper tainted with the same salmonella strain that sickened more than 1,200 was found at a processing plant in Texas. The warning to avoid jalapeno peppers are now more firm. FDA spokesman David Acheson told reporters on a conference call today: "Although the pepper was grown in Mexico, it may not have been contaminated there. The critical part of this is not to say, `We've got this figured out.''' By the way, tomatoes haven't been completely exonerated. Eat local! [Bloomberg]
