Jan Perry's proposal to place a one-year moratorium on new fast food restaurants in South LA won unanimous support from the LA City Council this afternoon. If approved by the full council and signed by the mayor, chains like McDonald's and KFC would be prohibited from opening in a 32-square-mile area, which includes West Adams, Baldwin Village and Leimert Park. The moratorium would be in effect for one year, with the possibility of two six-month extensions. Perry said after speaking with restaurant lobbyists, she amended her proposal so "fast casual" that don't have heat lamps and drive-through windows would get the green light. Subway and Pastagina for all! [LAT; previously]
