VegasWire: Keller and Flay Opening Burger Joints?

New, 1 comment

Laurent Tourondel's BLT Burger just opened, why not Keller?

Vegas man about town John Curtas has an unconfirmed but pretty solid rumor on Eating LV that Thomas Keller is considering an outpost of his Burgers and Half-Bottles concept for the Venetian. Why it could be true: Supposedly it will take the place of Lutece, which closed in late 2006. Plus, there is a serious gourmet burger boom going on on the Strip right now. Why it might far-fetched: Keller's burger concept was approved in Yountville, but construction hasn't started yet. Could he already be thinking of Vegas?

Why not. Burgers are a trend here in LA, of course, but there, too: Laurent Tourondel just opened BLT Burger at the Mirage; Hubert Keller opened The Burger Bar at Mandalay Place in 2004; last year Stripburger opened at Fashion Show Mall; the Red Rock resort in Summerlin will have LBS: A Burger Joint in the fall; and there's rumor that Bobby Flay wants to put his new burger concept, Bobby's Burger Palace, at Caesars. Who's next, Daniel Boulud, Michael Mina, Joel Robuchon? The Keller and Flay rumors are yet to be confirmed or denied by resort reps, but know this for sure: Once all the resorts get around to opening some sort of gourmet and/or chef-driven burger concept, everyone else will be on to the next big thing. And the Vegas circle of life will continue...
