KABC's long-time restaurant and travel reporter Elmer Dills died in Pasadena yesterday. He was 82. After traveling through Europe and the Middle East as an officer for the CIA, Dills reported on food and travel for KABC Talk Radio and then KABC's "Eyewitness News." He emphasized inexpensive, unusual restaurants---"If you've ever wanted to try the exotic cuisine of Albania, you have two choices: You can hop a plane for Albania -- not a very good idea these days -- or you can go to Beverly Hills, where you'll find the only restaurant in the United States serving Albanian cuisine."---and neighborhood favorites. Anyone who's driven by Avanti Cafe on Lake Avenue in Pasadena over the years surely saw the "Voted Best Pizza" sign with the tagline, "And I agree!" from Dills. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. [ABC7]
