WEST HOLLYWOOD: A possible Pizza Wars entrant: Cristoni Pizzeria very softly opened its doors in a Sunset Strip strip mall yesterday. This is a side project for Tony Riviera from the Primo Hospitality Group who's teamed up with a few celeb investors (Entourage's Kevin Connolly, basketball stars Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley). Touting classic Neapolitan pizzas from Enrico Sautto who trained at Antica Pizzeria Da Michele in Naples, Italy, you'll find things like the Margherita or Bianco pizzas, or one with black truffles and porcinin mushrooms, or the Cristoni with a ricotta crust. Nice open space, outdoor patio, stays open from lunch to late (midnight during the week, 3am on weekends). (8539 W Sunset Blvd, 310.657.8931)
SILVER LAKE: The day has arrived: We confirmed with the restaurant that Michelangelo will begin dinner service in its new Rowena location on Friday (9/5). It's just what that former Flor Morena space needed: Pastas, salads, steaks, weekend brunch, patio seating, dark woods inside. (2742 Rowena Ave, 323.660.4843; website)
SILVER LAKE: Jason Michaud's Local opened for breakfast and lunch this week (dinner to follow soon) in the former Eastside Mercantile Shop. The chef. who opened Montrose's Three Drunken Goats after a long stint with Cobras & Matadors, will focus on local, seasonal ingredients and the menu will change frequently. Omelets, buckwheat crepes with various fillings, soups, chili, a salad bar, slow-roast pork sandwiches, mac and cheese are the kinds of things you'll see to start. Previously.
