This is officially junk food day: The NYT City Room blog asks, "Will cupcakes be the next Krispy Kreme?" Considering the aggressive expansion plans of Crumbs Bake Shop---several shops in NYC and two here, in Beverly Hills and on Larchmont---the answer is yes. According to the article, the cupcakerie hopes to open 40 more shops over the next year, 150 in five years. According to our Crumbs source, next up for LA is Los Feliz, Americana at Brand and Malibu, all opening by the end of this year. [City Room; ELA]
