SANTA MONICA: More TV promotions = free food. ABC's Pushing Daisies premieres on October 1, so on Wednesday (9/9), they're giving out free pie on the Third Street Promenade from 9am to 3pm. If you haven't seen the show, the main character Ned makes and sells pies at The Pie Hole, thus the pie connection. Although we're not exactly sure where the pie mobile will be set up, they have recipes for peach, blueberry or and apple pie on the tour website, so that's probably what to expect. Look for the waitresses on daisy-covered bicycles. [EaterWire; Yelp]
WEST HOLLYWOOD: Taste just got a little tastier: The moderate Melrose spot now has its liquor license. Say it together now---drinks for all my friends! [EaterWire]
LAUNCHING: Didn't think Rachel Ray or Paul Deen's magazine was enough? Hearst publications and The Food Network will launch Food Network Magazine in October. According to the press release, "the magazine concept is to feature various Food Network talent – from the Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten to Paula Deen, Guy Fieri, Alton Brown and Tyler Florence – throughout its pages, offering readers their personal tips, tricks and recipes, plus a behind-the-scenes look at their shows and kitchens." And another tree weeps. [EaterWire]
