We've covered it pretty extensively, but Casa officially "officially" opens tomorrow (Jan. 6) at California Plaza downtown. After a few visits already, the best way to describe Kris Morningstar's (former Blue Velvet exec chef) is "soulful," meaning deeply flavored mole, rabbit in chestnut sauce, chile rellenos stuffed with house-made chorizo and dates, tacos de lengua with ancho-chile-raisin salsa and homemade tortillas. It's taqueria-style for lunch (limited menu) and sit-down (more extensive menu) at dinner, with a bonus weeknight happy hour and "taco truck" late-night menu. However, no weekend hours until February. There is valet and validated garage parking, but, at least at night, check for street parking on Grand. [350 S Grand Ave, 213.621.2249; website]
