HOLLYWOOD— In other opening news, comes today's debut of The Oaks Gourmet. What a looker, check out all that merch. Headed by Greg Morris (The Spanish Kitchen, The Belmont, Oak Fire Pizzeria & Pub) who wanted to create a gourmet food store that sells as many locally-made artisanal products as possible, the end product look like quite the success. Coffee, wine, craft beer, cheese, yum. [EaterWire]

VENICE— On October 11, Joe's will host a mixology competition with bartenders from Comme Ca, Church & State, Rivera, BOA, and Providence. Participants must create a classic cocktail, a theme cocktail and a third cocktail of his/her choice, all of which will be for sale to the public for $10 from 6-9p. [EaterWire]

MARINA DEL REY— That old Shakey's on Washington has shuttered and in its place comes another branch of local mini-chain Pitfire Pizza. The space will be revamped and outfitted in the appropriate attire. [EaterWire]
