LARCHMONT— There's been quite a ruckus on Larchmont Blvd since Larchmont Bungalow moved in. Earlier this week a reader popped by the new coffee shop/cafe and spied "a number of picket signs and protesters who objected to the restaurant being more than 'take out' food for which they claim it was licensed." According to a group of volunteers who call themselves I Love Larchmont Blvd this eat-in/take-out establishment violates a city zoning restriction called the “Q” conditions. Also, apparently Larchmont Bungalow only has a "take-out" license, though it has been selling food like a regular restaurant.
On Tuesday Councilmember Tom LaBonge stopped by and the eatery was cited for operating without a Certificate of Occupancy. "Inspectors immediately ordered the business to close until it obtained a C of O." According to Ken Bernard, the owner and operating manager of The Larchmont Bungalow, there are other restaurants on the block who have ignored the “Q” conditions and are providing sit-down service to the locals. He says that the “Q” condition has “no legal definition” and that the restaurant is in the appeal process. More to come. [EaterWire]
