BreadBar SM Reopens Tonight with Hatchi Roku Pop Up

New, 8 comments

The first time around, BreadBar Santa Monica lasted, oh, 6 months? It's been closed for most of this year, but today the bakery is reopening and kicking it up a few notches. Here's the scoop! As you can see in the photos, there's little going on out front in terms of signage, but their website says it all. Eda Vesterman is back with a four elements menu in conjunction with Chef Nori's mysterious ironnori concept, taking over the kitchen for three months after which another guest chef will run the kitchen for the next three. According to a staffer, this is a take off from what Ludo did way back when during BreadBar's original guest chef series. And apparently, the guest chefs "are the most profitable part of the business" and clearly generate the most press. So, not only will BreadBar Century City continue hosting its once a month Hatchi nights, but BreadBar Santa Monica is joining the ranks with its temporary restaurant concept.

Seems like a winner, but for a bakery cafe, it's a bit of a stretch. BreadBar Santa Monica will serve dinner from 5:30-10PM Wed-Sat and serve wine and cheese until "late" - some sources say they're hoping to rock the neighborhood until 2am - due, in large part, to their new wine and beer license. La Botte next door, watch out: a new wine bar restaurant is coming (back) to the block. [EaterWire]
