Pie Party in Canoga Park; Dinner and a Movie in Pasadena

PASADENA-- Recession be damned, luxury movie watching is coming to Old Pasadena December 12th when the Australia-based Gold Class Cinemas opens its first California location in the One Colorado building. Besides enjoying the movie from plush reclining seats, the audience can dine from a full gourmet seasonal menu (because Twilight is always better with a Wagyu beef burger) and a full wine list. CANOGA PARK-- Because NPR and pie go together like orange juice and a hangover, KCRW is sponsoring its first ever pie contest at the Westfield Topanga shopping center. Good Food's Evan Kleiman hosts and judges include local food celebs Mark Peel (Campanile), Stefan Richter (Stefan's at LA Farm), and Russ Parsons (LA Times food editor). The 150 pies will be sliced and served gratis to those in attendance. [EaterWire]

MALIBU-- The Malibu Lumber Yard will soon be home to a chocolate lover's Graceland. La Canada's ChocolateBox Cafe celebrates the grand opening of its new Malibu outpost next Sunday. The Cafe showcases all things chocolate including a hot chocolate bar, assorted ganaches, pralines, truffles, and gelato. [EaterWire]
