Yup, it's happening. The ever-growing Umami collective will soon add "mobile" food vehicle to its roster. But here's the catch. The truck has been purchased and should launch by December 1 in Santa Monica, however at first it won't be roaming the streets of LA, that will come early 2010. Umami at Fred Segal has been slightly delayed so the plan is to park the vehicle permanently (for the rest of 2009 at least) outside the store until its up and running. There will be free free parking, hopefully outdoor seating, and perhaps even alcohol. When Umami's fourth outpost finally opens owner Adam Fleischman hopes to move the truck to Malibu to serve the surfing community and Umami fans out there. Another reason for the truck is that Umami receives so many catering requests that their kitchens can't handle all the orders. With the new truck, employees can (eventually) drive over to a particular location and cook directly on site. So, this behemoth of a truck includes a 30-foot "souped up" kitchen and will serve a limited burger menu in effort to maintain quality. Surely you'll eventually be able to follow them on twitter.
