Restaurants are closing left and right in Beverly Hills, but Crustacean on the corner of little Santa Monica Blvd. and Bedford Dr. is still going strong. So strong, in fact, that the An family (owners) are opening not one, but two new Southland restaurants by the end of this year.
In Costa Mesa, right next to South Coast Plaza's Bloomingdales, AnQi will feature gourmet bistro cuisine by Crustacean chef Helene An. AnQi will also have a runway in the dining room, perfect for collaborating with nearby shops on seasonal fashion shows. Fusing food and fashion has inspired Chef An to create menus featuring plenty of healthful herbs and antioxidant-rich ingredients, catering both to the fashion show guests and its twiggy models.
Chef An will also leave her mark on the menu for Tiato, described as a "market cafe". Located in Santa Monica, this will be the An family's fourth California location. Serving breakfast and lunch, the menu is inspired by Chef An's "Yin and Yang" approach to combining traditional methods with seasonal and healthful ingredients. Casual and fast-paced, there will also be a "fresh bites-on-the-go" section with Asian-American inspired fare. Eggs on Bao or Pancakes with Persimmons are on the breakfast menu while lunch features a Crepe Ratatouille and An's Secret Garlic Noodles.
