Today, Mr. Jonathan shares his first impressions of the Westside Tavern behemoth, which as it turns out, isn't half-bad at playing its assigned role in the dining/social scene: "Westside Tavern, run by Warren Schwartz, who used to be the chef at Whist, ably fulfills its contract, which is to provide California grill food that’s somewhat better and somewhat less expensive than Houston’s, in a venue unlikely to blast you with Kenny G." A backhanded compliment? Perhaps in some ways, but as The JG points out, it's not a place you seek transcendence to begin with. [LAW]
