Week In Reviews: Nickel Diner

New, 3 comments

2008_08_nickel2.jpgJonathan Gold deems Nickel Diner "an unlikely success," located by one of downtown's most notorious skid row-esque intersections. He describes a salad as "a million times better than you’d expect in a diner," and a steak as "dive-perfect and grand," but perhaps that is what one should expect from a diner that also serves freshly squeezed oj, and who not only has a pastry chef, but one that has worked at restaurants like Bouchon and Per Se. Serving quality food in a divey area, "Nickel is a precise reflection of its neighborhood and time." [LAW]
