Venice: Behold Intelligentsia Venice, open right this second. From our initial scope-age the fancy schmancy coffee shop boasts a spiderweb of angular metal pieces that create a clean industrial-mod setting. Clover coffee machines whip up drinks, a mini hand-held device rings up orders in place of a cash register, and long wooden benches run along one side of the entryway into the shop for loitering customers. Bags of coffee for sale, in addition to other coffee goods flank opposing walls, but all the coffee magic takes place in the center of the room where each customer is granted his/her own barista. Also in the works, seasonal coffee menus based on owner Doug Zell's coffee bean findings. Today's downside? Doug missed his own opening day since he is coffee tasting in Colombia.
