Another update on this hot Friday straight from Mr. George Abou-Daoud on his two latest projects, Mercantile and District. Housed in the same building at 6600 Sunset Blvd., Mercantile will take the form of a wine and artisan food market, serving up lunch fare ranging from seasonal sandwiches with a twist to house-made ice cream. Meanwhile, its next door neighbor, District, will fall in the more dinner-y category; a seasonal American bistro menu is in the works. Expect appetizers like sweet breads with bacon-date puree and uni gratin with bay scallops, and entrees like marrow-crusted striped bass with fingerling potatoes. Both eatery kitchens will be run by Kris Morningstar (Blue Velvet, Casa), and while they were originally anticipated to open this summer the debut has been pushed to the fall with Mercantile expected in early September and District in October.
