EaterWire: Dtown Dining News, Spanish/Moroccan Night at Zimzala, Book Deal for Deep End Dining's Eddie Lin

DOWNTOWN— Blogdowntown shares several new restaurant goings on. A while back we heard that Top Chef alum Richard Blais was rumored to be taking over the old firehouse in downtown. He recently shared that his plans were on hold, and here is written that whoever was interested in the former firehouse space wanted to open a two-level restaurant/bar which was rejected by The Area Planning Commission. It all makes sense. Good luck to Richard in either modifying his proposal or finding a new space. Bring on the molecular! [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN— In the same article comes news that a restaurant (with karaoke, dancing, live music and video game machines) called La Mystere is trying to move into 610 E. 7th. Though still unapproved, owners expect a green light soon. [blogdowntown]

OC— For an excuse to check out the newly opened Zimzala Restaurant in the Shorebreak Hotel, tomorrow night Joyce Goldstein (James Beard award winner) will host an evening of Spanish and Moroccan fare. Dishing out $75 will grant the hungry a three-course dinner including several smaller tapas dishes followed by a veggie, fish, or meat tagine. [EaterWire]

OUT AND ABOUT— Squid Ink reports that on October 23 Lonely Planet will release Eddie Lin of Deep End Dining's first book, Extreme Cuisine. [SI]
