Well it is indeed that time of year again: The Zagat 2010 Restaurants for Los Angeles and Southern California hits the shelves today. So, what's new this year?
Urasawa dethrones Melisse and nabs number one spot for both food and service, and the Penthouse at the HuntleyHotel steals number one for decor. No shocker here, Pizzeria Mozza is ranked number one for popularity, and the top notable newcomers include The Bazaar (again, no surprise here), Drago Centro, Church & State, Bouzy Gastropub and Huckleberry. For the first time ever food trucks are included in the survey and Kogi comes in at #4 on the Bang-for-the-Buck list.
In general, we're dining out significantly less, frequenting cheaper places, skipping appetizers and/or dessert and cutting back on alcohol and bottled water. The price of a meal rose 1.7% since last year (from $34.38 to $34.95) and the average cost at the 20 Most Expensive restaurants has declined by 2.2% (from $83.89 to $82.01).
