This morning (7AM) Santa Monica welcomed in yet another new sweets spot, La Monarca, located on Wilshire and Euclid. Partners Ricardo Cervantes and Alfredo Livas are excited to launch their third outpost of the Mexican bakery, this west side location is quite a far cry from their previous two space in Huntington Park and City of Commerce. Upon entering, grab a plastic tray and tongs and, in the Mexican fashion, stock up on a variety of croissants and sweet breads. Continue down toward the the refrigerated case stocked with all avenues of cakes, fruit tarts, and flans, finally end up at the counter where Mexican wedding cookies, mini palmiers, and dulce de leche empanadas round out the goods. Ricardo explains that since today is opening day they're only offering a selection of baked goods with more to come. Also important to note, starting in January savories will be on offer here as well. The whole lunch concept only launched a couple of months ago at the other La Monarca locations, but Santa Monica too will serves dishes like Cazuelas with Poblano Chicken Mole, Tomatillo Salsa Verde Braised Beef to be enjoyed at the handful of two-tops that line the wall along Euclid.
