Umami Burger of the Year; Doomie's Returns; Holiday Wine Tastings at Domaine LA

LOS ANGELES-- GQ Magazine, not typically one to christen a "Burger of the Year," in its December issue has broken with tradition and done just that, the award going to Adam Fleischman's Umami Burger. GQ Food Editor Alan Richman praised both the burger's unadorned simplicity ("pure and wonderful") and its adorned craziness ("head-spinning and mind-expanding"). Check it out. [GQ]

HOLLYWOOD-- Doomie's, the vegetarian and vegan restaurant that disappeared from Chinatown last year is reopening in new Hollywood digs next weekend. It's open 12-10PM Tuesday-Sunday and its opening weekend is reservation-only. [QuarryGirl]

HOLLYWOOD-- Wine shop Domaine LA is continuing its new tasting series with two events next week. First, on Tuesday, 12/7 from 7:30-9:30 Bar Covell's Matthew Kaner will be debuting two new releases from his wine label AM/FM. Tickets are $22 for four wines (two AM/FM selections plus two additional unique offerings) and food from All About The Bread. Next, on Sunday, 12/12 from 2-5PM, Domaine LA will be hosting a holiday tasting of some of the top small-production Grower Champagnes--sparkling wines produced by grape growers themselves, not by the giant luxury Champagne houses--in the world. Tickets are $22 for at least 5+ top Champagnes. Owner Jill Bernheimer will be giving day-of discounts to attendees on the wines being poured (10% off bottles, 15% off mixed cases). Expect a food truck to be in attendance as well. Both tastings have limited availability, so buy your tickets in advance. [EaterWire]
