While the economy slumped, McDonald's boasted a 6.1% increase in same-store sales, largely thanks to an increased number of new menu items like smoothies and their McCafe coffee drink line. Seems not all locations have had success with the products, though: one franchisee said the McCafe's are so unpopular "we are not even paying for the electricity to run the machine."
