Essex Public House hit Hollywood Blvd just about a year and a half ago attempting to feed Angelenos craft beer and gastropub fare in a casual but upscale bar environment. Upon inception, chef Chris Ennis headed up the kitchen, though after just two and a half months he was out to pursue other ventures (he's currently signed on as kitchen commander at forthcoming Rolling Stone restaurant and lounge). Anyway, apparently the whole craft beer thing wasn't so well received by the 'hood because Essex has shuttered for the time being, it may reopen as Essex or may be reconceptualized into another eatery/drinkery. Also, one of the principal partners, Greg Link, is no longer attached to the establishment, he's currently working on a solo beer and wine bar downtown slated to serve a refined gastropub menu (lunch, dinner, late night) debuting spring/summer 2011.
