Plywood vet Upper West is finally readying for its debut on Thursday. Back in December came word of the forthcoming casual restaurant and bar serving modern American comfort cuisine, here now a look inside at the simple design aesthetic with a mostly dark brown and white color scheme, 28-foot tall exposed ceiling, and an outdoor patio for al fresco dining on warmer nights. At the 27-foot bar guests can order muddled cocktails like the namesake Upper West (oranges and mint, Navan -Vanilla flavored brandy, Malibu rum, splash of O.J.) or a more interesting creation such as the Signature (fresh watermelon, agave, Cabana Cachaca, served on the rocks with cubed Cotija cheese). As for food, Wolfgang Puck alum Nick Shipp heads the kitchen where he has crafted an American fusion menu of classics: burrata caprese, braised short ribs, ahi tacos, beef carpaccio, burger, meatloaf, and so on.
