OC— For the third opening alert of the day, The Catch, an Anaheim landmark for more than 32 years, reopens tonight at its new location just a homerun hit away from Angel’s Stadium on the corner of Sportstown Drive and Katella Avenue. The restaurant held a press preview Wednesday which showcased the new athletic-themed space, as well as the seafood-dominated menu created by Culinary Director Tom Hope. Look for dishes like marinated lobster on homemade potato chips, Costa Rican-style ceviche, and ahi tuna sashimi served on mango slices. [EaterWire]
ECHO PARK— Scott Zwiezen, owner of vegetarian hotspot Elf Cafe, divulges expansion plans to The Huffington Post. Specifically, he will install a full service kitchen in the existing eatery and take over the space next door. [HuffPo]
WEHO— Philippe has expanded its menu to include six "healthier" steamed dishes. New options include a dumpling sampler, chicken and broccoli, Chilean sea bass served with black bean and garlic sauces, steamed whole fish with scallions & ginger, live Maine lobster with fresh ginger, scallions and cracked black pepper, as well as a seasonal vegetable platter, available with tofu. GOOD DEEDS— If you're planning on buying V-day flowers, consider going through Taste of the Nation and you'll also be helping to end childhood hunger. That's right, Taste of the Nation: Los Angeles is partnering up with Dandelion Ranch, a local "floral couturier" for a special Valentine's day promo. A portion of the proceeds from each Dandelion Ranch bouquet will benefit Share Our Strength. Two ways to play: Call Dandelion directly and say "Valentine's Day promotion." Or, go to a participating restaurant and, when you make your V-day reservation, ask to get flowers delivered tableside (mention "Share Our Strength"). Bonus: Score points with your significant other. Participating restaurants include: Ford's Filling Station, Lily's, Roy's Downtown, FIG, Jiraffe, Lucques, Tavern and AOC. Check the Taste of the Nation website for details/updates. [EaterWire] —YI
