Status: Officially opens tomorrow
With its very soft opening February 1, tomorrow marks the official debut of Ray Byrne's first solo venture, a gourmet hot dog shop called The Slaw Dogs. A former managing partner of The Sunset Restaurant (Malibu), Byrne decided to venture out on his own and reinvent the flavors of the hot dog. Diners have the option to create his/her own dog and pick out the link and custom toppings (truffle oil, jalapeno-bacon, roasted garlic), or order off the menu which includes creations like The Rueben Dog (butterfly spicy Polish, pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, grilled rye), and the Thai Slaw Dog (chicken sausage, spicy peanut-coconut satay dressing, cilantro-carrot slaw, crushed peanuts, siracha aioli). Hot dogs are mostly priced between $5-$6 with sides of fries and onion rings between $3 and $4.

As for libations, Byrne is currently in the process of acquiring a beer and wine license and when that does finally come through (could be three months away) he plans to serve local craft beers from Craftsman and Eagle Rock Brewery, in addition to imports that reflect the ethnic ingredients on the menu. Wines will be all west coast small production from Washington to Baja Mexico with some fun seasonal fruit spritzers thrown in. [EaterWire]
