In a space that was formerly occupied by the Church of Religious Science comes newbie Xai Verandah Lounge, an airy Mediterranean restaurant cum tea lounge cum hookah bar which opened just last month. The venue is divided into several different rooms: the restaurant and bar area, a plush lounge with hookahs and ornamental embellishments, and a substantial outdoor terrace with cabanas. Xai, which means tea in over 36 countries, prides itself clearly on its tea menu, though for those in search of a different beverage, the full gamut of coffee, espresso, etc is on offer in addition to smoothies, soda, and fresh squeezed juice.
The regular food menu is a mix of Mediterranean and California fare, look for everything from tuna tartare to a lamb and Kobe burger to a falafel sandwich, all reasonably priced. The most expansive menu item falls to an $18 Colorado rack of lamb, with other entrees around $15, and sandwiches between $9 and $12. Xai is opened daily for lunch from 11AM to 4PM, dinner Wed-Sun 4-11PM, Thurs-Sat, 4PM-midnight. [EaterWire]
