Status: Opened Last Night
As often happens in the restaurant world, delay after delay has held up the newest spot on Restaurant Row, Darioush. Last night they softly opened to a busy crowd of friends and locals. Billed as a modern Cali-French grill, the eatery looks like it will fit in with the neighborhood with its long bar, plush booths, gilded accents and dark woods. Owner and Chef Darioush Danesh trained in the UK, but brings his Persian roots forward in a menu filled with herbed salads, creamy soups and daily specials. Entrees like Certified Free-Range Angus Filet with Truffled Potatoes and Red Wine Jus ($29) and Oven-Roasted Monkfish wrapped in Prosciutto with Wilted Spinach, Mashed Potatoes and Caper-Pinenut Dressing ($28) speak of Danesh's European training. His extensive list of grilled skewers (another name for kebab) speak to his Middle Eastern tastes. Desserts bring the French technique forward again with Hot Chocolate Fondant, but his homemade Pistachio Ice Cream and Red Berry Coulis tie the package together. Wines and beer is available, and wines from Darioush Winery in Napa Valley feature prominently in the cellar. Open Monday through Saturday for lunch from 11:30AM to 2:30PM and dinner from 5:30PM to 10:30PM.
