New, 2 comments

DOWNTOWN— Earth Day is coming up and Church & State plans to celebrate via its new on-site Urban Production Garden. On Thursday volunteers from Pedal Patch Community (an LA-based non-profit that works to prevent hunger and poverty) will teach kids from the Heart of Los Angeles Youth how to sow seeds during the garden's first harvest (herbs are located along the side of the restaurant plus in pots). Later that day and going forward, the restaurant will serve three cocktails (Sorrel-Gin Fizz, The Spice Trade, and Parsley Mojito) featuring the freshly grown herbs. To start, the garden produces rosemary, dill, cilantro, onions, sorrel, mizuna and Osaka red mustard lettuces. In the future C&S hopes to grow carrots, pumpkins, squash, melons, onions, peppers, eggplant, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, and other seasonal veggies. [EaterWire]
