Magnolia Bakery, famous for its pastel-hued old-fashioned cupcakes and for catering to Sex and the City buttercream cravings, is opening up on a LA corner near you. With four locations in New York and one in Dubai, Magnolia is set up to go against LA's own big cupcake players (sorry Sprinkles). Construction has continued at a steady, if slower than usual, pace since late last year, but Magnolia's key players were in town last week to hire counter staff, bakers, and management for their newest location on the corner of Third Street and Orlando Avenue.
Eater recently took a peek inside and, well, there's really just a whole bunch of beams and exposed drywall and not much else. Magnolia's president and CEO were on hand to conduct interviews and the departments of health and sanitation have been around to check on construction. Magnolia's CEO, Sina Clark says they hope to have seating inside, but it seems to depend on whether or not they have enough parking. Really? Hopefully it doesn't come down to that. Fortunately, Third Street recently instituted that public valet system, so hopefully the neighborhood kids will have a place to sit while they lick the frosting off their fingers. If all goes well, expect grand opening announcements at the end of May.
