Downtown Gets More Mexican with Mas Malo

Entering the downtown beat, specifically the ground floor of the Clifton's Silver Spoon Cafeteria and Brock Jewelers building by Seven Grand comes Mas Malo, a spin-off of seven-year old Malo, a Mexican restaurant in Silver Lake owned by Jeff Ellermeyer of Buck TV and Mitchell Frank of Spaceland Productions. Original plans estimated an opening in 2009, obviously that didn't happen because here we are a year later with construction just beginning. So far, the all-star design team has been established: Ana Henton of Mass Architecture & Design (Intelligentsia Venice) plus Tracy Beckmann of Tracy Beckmann Design (the Tar Pit). Keep in mind the restaurant space is a historical landmark, though look for a modern design aesthetic within it. This will not be your typical taqueria, but do expect Mexican fare like the original.
