Provecho Modern Mexican Finally Shuts Its Doors Downtown

New, 7 comments

Well, really can't say this one is a shocker. Back in March owners of the 800 Wilshire Group, which is made up of Provecho and Remedy Lounge, filed for Chapter 11 whereby the restaurant's landlord was granted permission to evict the tenant who allegedly owed $39,743 in back rent and $144,000 in sales taxes to the state. At the time, representatives for the restaurant denied a shutter, but according to blogdowntown, despite Provecho's recent Cinco de Mayo party, the restaurant has shuttered and a sign posted on the door reads "Provecho is closed / Thank you for the support." So anyway, this all comes after only about a year and a half of business, and while haute Mexican cuisine seemed like a good idea (works for Rivera), chef Gabe Morales just couldn't pull it together. Perhaps the space was too big because it was never ever full.
