Bite Soft Opens Tonight, Jose Andres Holds Wine Dinner, Changes at Essex

Elizabeth Daniels 4/10

WEST HOLLYWOOD— File this one under The Shutter/Opening Alert. Weho mainstay Tango Grill is doneski and in its place comes Bite, a cute, simply designed casual spot on Santa Monica Blvd. New owners Moez Kaba and Bjorn Lundberg have kept about 75% of the old menu and added more pasta dishes, risottos, burgers, salads, in addition to daily specials. Also, the eatery will now offer both breakfast and weekend brunch with a build-your-own pancake option in addition to staples like breakfast burritos, eggs benedict, and healthy scrambles. Also note, many gluten-free options grace both the breakfast and dinner menu. Tonight marks a soft opening of sorts with a special Cinco de Mayo menu (fajitas, tacos, nachos, the works), though tomorrow the restaurant will soft open with its regular menu. Full grand opening happens on May 17. [EaterWire]

BEVERLY HILLS— On May 18 Jose Andres hosts a Spanish wine dinner with winemaker Alejandro Fernandez who Andres says "put tempranillo, ribera del Duero and Spain on the map." The $200 meal will be held at Saam, the chef’s tasting room in The Bazaar. [EaterWire]

HOLLYWOOD— As of yesterday Essex is again open for lunch Monday-Saturday starting at 11:30AM. The restaurant and bar has also launched a late night happy hour from 10PM-2AM. Partner Greg Link plans to add 6-8 more tap handles making room for some bigger and more complex craft beers, also look for bourbon and rye cocktails hitting the menu in the next few weeks.
