Finally, after months of tracking, proprietor Greg Morris (The Belmont, the Spanish Kitchen, The Oaks Gourmet) debuts The Olive Kitchen + Bar today inside the Grafton on Sunset Hotel. In effort to fill a void Morris believed was missing on Sunset, The Olive, as one can see above, fits into the more casual dining category with its buttercup yellow leather booths, Roy Lichtenstein-inspired chalk drawings, and all that mahogany for the tables and trim? It was actually sustainably harvested. The restaurant offers two bars, one in the center of the room composed of olive burl wood, in addition to a second smaller back bar. On the subject of food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), the overarching theme here is Mediterranean, which ends up including some simple Italian dishes and some seasonal Cali-style cuisine.
Breakfast: Capri Frittata with blue crab, mozzarella cheese, asparagus and cheery tomatoes; Meyer Lemon Ricotta Crepes with fresh berry sauce; and French Toast made with cinnamon raisin bread, homemade syrup and berries.
Lunch: Roasted Beet and Burrata salad; the Classico Panini served with Prosciutto di Parma, Smoked Mozzarella and Roasted Peppers; and Crispy Brick-Roasted Chicken with a Grappa Rosemary Jus.
Dinner: Wrapped Pancetta Prawns; made to order Baked Lasagna Bolognese; and Tuscan Prime Bone-in Ribeye Steak with Truffle Butter.
