Last year LA's own Michael Voltaggio won season six of Top Chef, catapulting him to celebrity chef stardom. Prior to the show his cheffing stints, which are anything but shabby, included time spent at The Bazaar in the SLS, and as chef de cuisine he was in control of the stoves when SIV granted a full four stars to the Spanish eatery. Bravo! From there M.Volt popped up at Breadbar for a night of guest cheffing, and afterward he landed at his current home, the Michelin-starred restaurant inside The Langham in Pas. But Pasadena? Michael, what are you doing all the way out there? Regardless, three months ago Food & Wine asked the Top Chef winner whether he planned on opening a restaurant with his $125,000 prize money, and he responded by saying, "I'm not going to be irresponsible. But if things come up, like if I have the idea 'Oh, I want to buy one of those food trucks,' there could be a spur-of-the-moment purchase."
Several sources around town have shared news that M.Volt plans to leave The Langham to open his own restaurant closer to the center of town, perhaps West Hollywood. No definite details yet, but this departure is highly likely, and will certainly be well received by the foodie contingent.
