HOLLYWOOD— Froyo chains come and go, but cupcakes are forever. Or at least that's how it seems lately. What with Magnolia sprouting up on Third Street and Cupcakes aGoGo on the street, the retail trend is certainly not dead. One of LA's own original cupcake houses, Frosted Cupcakery, expanded from Long Beach to Hollywood in February and anyone looking for a sugar high should note that this month's seasonal cupcake flavor is Strawberry Lemonade. Think lemon cake with fresh strawberries topped with strawberry cream cheese frosting. [EaterWire] — DG
OC— Yay, more info on The Bruery's forthcoming specialty beer shop/cafe/market opening early August on North Glassell Street in Old Town Orange. Leave those growlers at home because The Bruery Provisions will stock a plethora of craft beers in bottle from both local breweries like Port Brewing to Japan's Hitachino Nest and, obviously, many beers from The Bruery. In addition to hawking beer, Provisions will also sell wine, cheese, and charcuterie, and provide a small tasting bar for the curious to sample a rotating selection of beer and wine. And, if you're wondering which strain of brettanomyces went into that sour, certified Cicerones (aka beer sommeliers) will be on hand to answer such queries. [EaterWire]
HOLLYWOOD— Next Thursday, June 10th, Playboy marks its 50th anniversary by commandeering 50 nightclubs around the world. Playhouse and The Palm’s Playboy Club will respectively host the Los Angeles and Vegas festivities. Expect bunny sightings. [EaterWire] — DM
SILVER LAKE— Starting this Friday, the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation will once again play host for summer wine tasting from Silverlake Wine. Along with wine flights, Let's be Frank and Coolhaus will be parked and ready to provide grub to help soak up the booze. Proceeds from the wine tastings benefit local programs, including the Free Sunday Art Classes for children. Unlike last year, no tickets will be sold at the door, so go online to purchase the $20 tix in advance. [EaterWire] — YI
