Status: Opened Thursday
The burger concept, within the Los Angeles dining scene today (with the notable exception of fast-food chains), has reached critical mass. And now, the newest burger-centric restaurant to open is Juicy Burger on Hollywood and Ivar. Owner George Ghaby is not new to the restaurant business, he's been the owner and operator of various concepts since the 1990s. Perhaps that's why he has decided to open a burger place where each customer can build their own burger. Although the "have it your way" concept isn't new (ahm,The Counter), it's new for Hollywood. Juicy Burger offers beef patties in 1/3 or 1/2 pound options. For non-beef eaters, there's chicken breast, a veggie option, and fried eggs. Basic toppings -- lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, mustard -- are free. Feeling fancy? Try one of the premium sauces: buttermilk ranch, chipotle mayo, teriyaki sauce and more, all of which are all make in-house. Premium toppings, just a $1 each, include caramelized onions, pepperoncinis, guacamole, bacon, grilled pineapple and sauteed spinach. Lastly, there's the choice of bun. Whew.
Of course there are signature burger options to pick from. The basic Juicy Burger (a burger sans cheese, with Thousand Island dressing) combo meal comes with small fries and a small drink for $8. The Popeye Burger has --wait for it -- sauteed spinach. Barbecue sauce and bacon dress up the Western Burger. The California Cheeseburger features guacamole, American cheese and bacon. Interestingly, Juicy Burger offers only fries as a side. These aren't just flash frozen potato sticks though, rather Belgian-style French fries, twice cooked and offered with a choice of one of ten dipping sauces. Juicy Burger is open daily from 11AM to 3AM.
