Owner Dennis Mitchell opened neighborHOOD cafe in the former home of the Charleville Cafe off of Charleville and South Beverly Drive just about a month ago. The sparse new space is outfitted in no-nonsense black and white. From the menu and overall concept, no-nonsense is exactly what neighborHOOD is going for here. Want frilly cupcakes? Cross the intersection to Famous Cupcakes. In the mood for froyo? Blanc is across the street. But if you want a practical breakfast or lunch, neighborHOOD has it covered. There's oatmeal, croissants, bagel breakfast sandwiches, granola, pastries, the usual suspects.

Lunch options include both the standard sandwiches and salads (Ham and Cheese, Pastrami, Caesar) with a few interesting additions. The Hood BLT is dressed with a paprika aioli. Egg Salad comes with bacon. Tuna salad, usually reminiscent of hospital food, is brightened with sweet corn and herbed mayo. There are panini as well, including a three-cheese option and one with tuna and artichokes. Wraps make an appearance, as do soups du jour. Prices are reasonable for the area making lunch at $10 a possibility. NeighborHOOD is using environmentally friendly packaging and offers free delivery, too Open Monday through Friday from 7AM to 6PM and Saturdays from 9AM to 5PM. They are closed on Sundays, perhaps so that they, too, can enjoy the neighborhood.
