It's hard to believe that next month Santa Monica Place finally opens! We've been tracking the progress for a year and a half now, clearly the mall is still in plywood mode, but buildings are up, escalators have been installed, and the space is beginning to take shape. Check out the 32-photo gallery above to get a feel for the space which does look just like those initial renderings. Just to recap, here's what is coming. On the Dining Deck one will find upscale Mexican at La Sandia, modern Japanese from Ozumo, Italian via Pizza Antica, California cuisine inside Sonoma Wine Garden, contemporary Chinese within Xino Restaurant + Lounge, and Latin-Asian fusion at Zengo. So, something for everyone from Asian to Cali to Mexican to Italian. Separate from these chef-driven concepts is the food court. That will include the standards: Wetzel’s Pretzels, Sushi Itto, Stephano’s Pizza, Sarku Japan, Charlie Kebab, Chick n’ Ribs, Fatburger, Manchu Wok, and the lovely Pinches Tacos.

Not opening next month but in the works for a fall debut comes that rad gourmet marketplace called The Market. So far foodstuffs include Coco-Luxe, The Curious Palate, Kings Road Café, plus the unannounced Rockenwagner. More to come on this.
Lastly, on the first floor separate from other eateries will be another branch of Italian cafe/wine bar Ugo, and Tutti Frutti froyo on the third floor.
