Status: Opened July 3
Robert Humphrey, proprietor of the shuttered Siena Ristorante and executive chef at the shuttered Cuban eatery Xiomara (both in Pas), has opened Plate 38 over July Fourth weekend. The casual American restaurant serves three meals a day, seven days a week, and proudly brews Peet's Coffee and Tea. Plate 38's mission is to offer good food in a relaxed atmosphere outside of Old Town Pasadena, where parking and crowds can be difficult to maneuver. The organic eats span the gamut from braised smoked pork belly served with eggs, rosemary potatoes and toast for breakfast to more standard lunch and dinner offerings like a chicken sandwich on ciabatta to garlic marinated skirt steak. A dozen or so reds and whites are served by the glass or by bottle, Chimal Tripel appears on draft, in addition to Lost Coast Great White and Spaten Premium, plus nine craft-ish beers in botttle.
