Slowly details have filtered in on Sam Nazarian and sbe's newest dining destination, Cleo, inside the boho-chic new Redbury hotel in Hollywood. Above, the first interior shots of the spacious restaurant, clearly still in plywood mode, but certainly coming together. One might expect a glitzy, shiny, star-spangled venue, like Nazarian's other eateries, though this time he's trying something new. Something low key. Or, at least, low key for sbe. Heading up the menu is sbe corporate chef Danny Elmaleh, though Eater has heard that former The Six chef Dave Gussin landed in the kitchen as well.
Cleo shall serve lunch, dinner and late-night fare from noon to midnight daily featuring seasonal grilled pinchos (lamb kefta; shrimp kebob); small plate selections of meats, seafood, and vegetables (spanakopita; lebane with feta); as well as salads (Bloomsdale spinach with cabrales, cherries, almonds, fig balsamic), house-made laffa flatbreads (hen of the woods mushrooms plus aged mozzarella and gruyere; roasted eggplant with lebane, feta, fontina, zaatar); and even a raw bar. Several plates will also be prepared in the restaurant's wood-burning stone oven. Another division of dishes is broken down into "vegetables," "seafood," and "meats" offering the likes of Zucchini Keftedes with drained yogurt, pressed zucchini salad and Daurade Tagine with mussels, tomatoes, harissa, and picholine. Menu selections range in price from $4 with the most expensive running $15.95 for both Beef Cheeks Tagine and Roast Lamb. While the prices don't appear astronomical, it probably won't be hard to ring up a higher tab, which is frequently what happens at small-plate eateries. Nonetheless, a great new addition to Hollywood, peruse the full menu at your leisure. Wine list and desserts, too.
